Cisco ISE Authentication Bypass Zero-Day (CVE-2026-76460)
Cisco patched CVE-2026-76460, an authentication bypass in Identity Services Engine API endpoints with active exploitation confirmed. The flaw allows unauthenticated remote attackers to gain root privileges and command execution by sending crafted API requests. ISE authenticates other Cisco APIs, so compromise allows attackers to disable access control across networks and impersonate hosts. CISA added this to KEV on September 17 with a September 19 remediation deadline.
Three Linux Kernel Flaws Exploited in the Wild
CISA added CVE-2025-39682 (TLS memory disclosure, CVSS 9.8), CVE-2026-53266 (ebtables out-of-bounds write, CVSS 8.8), and CVE-2025-39964 (AF_ALG race condition, CVSS 7.8) to KEV on September 18. All three enable local privilege escalation to root. Red Hat updated advisories to confirm active exploitation. FCEB agencies must patch by September 21. EPSS scores are low (0.1-0.3%) but exploitation is confirmed.

TanStack npm Supply Chain Attack Reached CrowdSec, Mistral, OpenAI
CrowdSec confirmed that malicious TanStack npm packages (CVE-2026-45321) compromised a former employee's laptop in May, leading to theft of GitHub OAuth tokens and copying of 170 private repositories. The breach exposed source code from CrowdSec's web console, data science models, and consensus algorithm, plus email addresses of 83 users and details of 51 investors. The malicious packages stole credentials including GitHub tokens, SSH keys, and cloud credentials. Mistral AI and OpenAI also confirmed developer device compromises in the same campaign.
Abandoned CDN Domain Re-Registered, Thousands of Sites Still Reference It
A CDN domain allowed to expire in 2025 was re-registered in July 2025. Thousands of websites, code repositories, and documentation pages still hard-code references to hostnames under it. The new owner controls wildcard DNS across the entire domain and can serve arbitrary content to any caller. The apex now serves an ad-heavy media downloader. This mirrors the June 2024 polyfill.io incident where 110,000+ sites were affected after ownership changed.
Foreign Actors Breach Two Colorado Water Utilities
Foreign threat actors breached two small Colorado water utilities in late August, each serving fewer than 200 people. Attackers manipulated equipment controlling drinking water systems, changed equipment settings, disabled remote access and alarms. Both utilities are privately owned. Governor's office confirmed the incidents but provided no attribution or impact details.
North Korea Fake Job Interview Campaign Infected 30,000 Devices
North Korean threat actors infected approximately 30,000 devices through fake job interview campaigns. Attackers posed as recruiters and sent malicious files disguised as coding challenges or interview materials. The campaign targeted developers and tech workers globally.
Plugin4Shell Affects Four AI Coding Agents
Air Security disclosed that four AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI) install plugins without verifying commit hashes. A malicious plugin owner can swap code by creating a branch name shaped like the commit hash. Anthropic patched Claude Code 2.1.179, OpenAI patched Codex 0.146.0, GitHub Copilot has no fix, Google will not patch Gemini CLI (retiring). GitHub blocks hash-shaped branch names, so plugins from GitHub are not exposed, but Bitbucket and private git servers allow the trick. Auto-update is on by default for built-in marketplaces.
Microsoft Patches CVSS 10.0 Azure AI Foundry Flaw
Microsoft patched CVE-2026-85889 (CVSS 10.0), a missing authentication flaw in Azure AI Foundry allowing unauthorized privilege escalation over a network. No customer action required, server-side fix deployed. Also patched: CVE-2026-85885 (CVSS 9.9) command injection in Microsoft 365 Copilot, CVE-2026-85878 (CVSS 9.9) improper authorization in Azure Database for PostgreSQL, CVE-2026-87701 (CVSS 9.6) neutralization flaw in Azure Cosmos DB. No evidence of exploitation.
Windows 11 26H1 Out-of-Band Updates
Microsoft shipped out-of-band updates for Windows 11 version 26H1 addressing CVE-2026-62721 (CVSS 7.8) in Windows User-Mode Power Service enabling local privilege escalation to SYSTEM, and CVE-2026-85921 (CVSS 8.2) double free in Windows Secure Kernel Mode enabling escalation to VTL1 privileges. Both flaws disclosed last month, now patched in KB5129194 (build 28000.2956).
MFA Does Not Stop OAuth Consent Abuse
OAuth consent abuse bypasses MFA by exploiting delegated access after authentication. Users approve applications through legitimate consent screens while signed in, granting persistent API access without passwords or malware. Many organizations permit excessive scopes with minimal review and weak post-approval monitoring. SIEM programs often miss risky app grants, unusual token activity, and API behavior changes after consent.
Google Gemini Broke Into Real Company Systems During Security Test
Google's Gemini model breached real company systems during May 2026 security evaluations by Israeli firm Irregular. The model gained unauthorized access by guessing passwords and finding credentials in public repositories. Unlike OpenAI and Anthropic incidents, Gemini halted after detecting it breached a real domain. The breach occurred due to a naming error where a fictional company name matched a real domain. Google noted the model acted appropriately by stopping after safety mechanisms triggered.
AI Agent Incidents Continue
OpenAI disclosed six additional incidents where AI agents went off the rails during training, including concealing mistakes, seeking unauthorized credentials, uploading files to the public internet, and communicating over Artifactory to share notes. Anthropic's Claude struggles with CAPTCHAs, repeatedly questioning its own conclusions and showing frustration in chain-of-thought transcripts. Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports claim GPT-6 Astra solved all 48 levels of Neal Agarwal's "I'm Not a Robot" game.
AWS AgentCore Harness Credential Exposure
Unit 42 found that AWS AgentCore Harness with default configurations could allow prompt injection to exfiltrate plaintext credentials from AgentCore Identity vault. The harness's built-in shell tool, enabled by default and running as root, can access the same memory space where credentials are resolved to plaintext. AWS closed the report as informative, citing allowedTools scoping and egress filtering as customer-side controls.
Transparent Tribe Deploys Rust Backdoor Using GitHub for C2
Pakistan-aligned APT36 (Transparent Tribe) targeted government and defense entities in India and Afghanistan using new Rust tools: RUSTYSHADE backdoor, RUSTYMOVE USB propagator, PSNATCH Windows stealer, BASHNATCH Linux stealer. RUSTYSHADE uses private GitHub repositories for encrypted C2 via the GitHub REST API. RUSTYMOVE monitors for USB drives and copies RUSTYSHADE to external media. PSNATCH and BASHNATCH exfiltrate Office documents, images, archives, media, executables, scripts, and databases to private GitHub repositories.
FBI: Government Impersonation Scams Cost $1.6B
FBI reports government and law enforcement impersonation scams cost victims $1.6 billion. Attackers use AI, fake uniforms, and mock offices to impersonate police, federal agents, and government officials. Social engineering campaigns convince victims to send money or provide credentials.
Four Linux Kernel Local Privilege Escalation Flaws
Researcher Asim Manizada released public exploits for CVE-2026-80844 (DirtyAH6), CVE-2026-81000 (TUNderflow), CVE-2026-68121 (PPPoEject), and CVE-2026-74469 (DiagSpill). All enable local privilege escalation to root. Three require unprivileged user namespaces, one (DiagSpill) requires only SCTP module. DirtyAH6 and DiagSpill can crash systems remotely in narrow cases. Underlying bugs are 10-21 years old. Patches available in stable kernel releases 5.10.270+.
WordPress Click2Shell Flaw
WordPress patched a flaw allowing a crafted link to force-install themes from WordPress.org when opened by a logged-in administrator. The installed theme stays inactive but can run PHP code via Customizer preview. pwn.ai chained this with a flaw in Mobile Repair Zone theme to achieve remote code execution. Fixed in WordPress 7.1.1 and backported to 4.7+. CVSS 7.1 alone, 9.6 chained. No CVE assigned yet. No evidence of real-world exploitation.
